It's Not That Bad #20: 6 of my favourite poetry stanzas of all time
“I can make the blood run back up my nose, ants rushing into a hole.”
This viral tweet got me thinking about the stanzas that stick with us, and how we carry them around - reciting them to friends in need, re-reading them on the tube after a tough day, posting them on social media, saying them over and over in our heads. How magic is that? That humans can string together words that genuinely change lives, in small every day ways. Now that’s poetry.
1. “Listen I love you joy is coming”
Coming in hot at number 1 is this sentence from Kim Addonzio’s ‘To the woman crying uncontrollably in the next stall’. No surprises here.
